这是由于英国的海洋性气候突出，夏季通常为20度左右的气温，早在2013年气温达到31℃时，9天内“热死”的人数达到了540-760人。欧洲热浪来袭的2003年，英国至少2000人因高温丧生，法国更达1.5万人。
本月，英国女王登基70周年庆典现场甚至有5名皇家仪仗兵因20℃的“高温”晕倒。
热死人数如此之多的一个原因是空调。在英国，空调相对来说并不常见，大多数留学生公寓也没有安装空调。根据BBC的数据，只有0.5%的家庭安装了空调。
英国的地铁里通常也是没有安装空调的，在2013年英国民众就强烈要求政府在地铁上加装空调，然而伦敦交通局表示为了环保，不装空调。

2018年伦敦交通局终于松口表示：“空调包在我身上，2030年就能搞定！”
没想到一向效率低下的英国人竟然超前完成任务，上月24日通车的女王线就配备了带空调的现代化车厢，不仅解决了部分民众夏季出行问题，也带动了周边房产的房价上升。
